Hand Held PDA Terminal
DSL’s Hand-Held PDA Terminal provides a method of controlling the plant remotely using a Hand-Held Pocket PC device. It integrates seamlessly into DSL’s AutoPilot4Feed control system, allowing the operators to monitor and make changes to several key areas from anywhere around the plant.
Overview
The Hand-Held terminals feature a large clear touch-sensitive screen and backlight. They come with the latest Windows Mobile operating system and are supplied in durable shockproof casing; well suited for harsh environments that also protects them against dust and moisture. Each hand-held terminal has a range of approximately 20 metres from the Wireless Access Point (WAP), but this can be extended by adding further WAPs throughout the plant.
DSL Systems has taken great care to ensure that the Hand-Held terminals are simple to use and that operators are provided with easy to follow touch-screen interfaces with clear information to allow them to perform many tasks swiftly and effortlessly. Many features are very similar to AutoPilot4Feed.
Main Menu
Always on view (at the top of each screen) is displayed the number of unacknowledged alarms (out of the total number of alarms) and the Tonnes per Hour for the plant. This gives you a very quick overview. Alarms are displayed in real-time and can be acknowledged simply by touching them. The system can be configured to display any single alarm area, or all alarm areas together.
The Day Programme provides the operator with real-time information about what is about to be produced in the plant.
Overrides
The Overrides page allows operators to view and perform overrides on any item within the plant. If an operator has to perform some maintenance on a piece of plant, they can stand next the plant item and actually operate it; watching to see if it operates correctly. This eliminates the need to have a second person with a radio in the control room. When in Override mode, automatic control in the batching plant is suspended. The operator can remove Override mode and the plant then reverts back to automatic. The previous four items are shown with their current status and can be selected simply by touching the screen.
Press Control
Production lines can also be monitored and adjusted remotely using the Hand-Held terminal. The Overview page provides the operator with live summary information for each line, and touching the screen on the desired production line displays more detailed information and allows the operator to adjust various settings in real-time. Additional features include the ability to perform a cleanout or dump.
